The end of the Homeless Families Foundation.

"There was a rat bigger than my shoe in that basement, flat as hell too." Tim Shaw comments as he and his working partner Mike Rusch carry a ratty old couch out of a small apartment on Grubb Street that used to be someone's home. The government is no longer funding The Homeless Families Foundation, and as a result the organization is forced to move all tennants out of the shelters they had provided them. "I'm about to be homeless myself," Tim says as he wipes the grime on his hands onto his jeans, "I just lost my job, but it'll work out, someone from my church will help me." He says this with confidence and nonchalantly as if it is the least of his worries. Although there are no more homeless residents in the apartment building, that doesnt mean they arent still around. As Tim and Mike continue to fill the dumpster with trash it seems as though the homeless hanging near by are snatching up the goods just as fast. After they are done moving materials out of the apartments Tim and Mike scrap any valuable metal from the furniture. "Just a little side money." Tim says as he unscrews the metal back of a chair with a butter knife.

Homeless of Columbus

Photos from my upcoming project on Homelessness. Taken December 27th

Mike Haught (right) of West Virginia helps Tyler Harnom (left) of Circleville tie together bedrolls and a comforter he got form the Open Shelter with dress ties. "I've been homeless since I was 13," Tyler comments as he wraps a blue tie around his comforter, "We live under a bridge on the railroad tracks now, but hopefully we'll be out of state tommorow."

Homeless of Columbus: Community Kitchen X-mas Party

On Friday December 23rd, the Community Kitchen had it's 15th annual Christmas Party. By 9 am there was a line going to the otherside of the parking lot despite the freezing temperature. "The line used to run all the way down to Livingston Avenue." One man tells me between puffs on his cigarette. The event was not just for the homeless it was for those who would otherwise not be able to afford to have a christmas. After a hot lunch, those who attended were led upstairs to get a bag of presents that were donated and wrapped.

Here are some of the images I captured.

More Photo-A-Day

SHots from the past couple of days...

This year shooting a photo-a-day is a little more difficult. Because of my job, which ends at 2:30 in the morning, my morning usually begins at 1 or 2 in the afternoon, so theres only a 3 hour window to shoot or go anywhere before I have to start going to work, a lot of time is spent driving around in my car looking around for a quick shot before work starts.

At around near Circleville Ohio.

Driving to work with old glory peeling off my windshield.

Cows doing Cow things in a Cow Pasture.
Much time is spent in my car as stated before.

Catching up on PHoto a day

SO of course, haven't been quite up to date with PHoto A day and to my productive side and you I apologize,  but heres whats been missing from the blog! i have been taking photos every day, they jsut fail to find their way to the interwebs.

Looking over the edge of a railroad bridge as my friend waits on the ground.

Wine shop at the Short North Market, accordians and wine go together like well, accordians and wine. Nuff said.

Not much of a photo a day, just some kids doin what kids do best, drinkin.

Last but of course not least, tracks leading to well, where ever tracks go. maybe a magic kingdom, maybe Baltimore. The latter is the more probable.
