Fest Season in Athens. A tradition among the student residents and thus a time for celebration. Every year students of Ohio University in Athens hold a series of partiers named by the street they are held on. Often times these party's consist of residents of the houses on these streets buying kegs, hiring DJs, and throwing huge party's. Over the past four years however residents and law enforcement officials of Athens City have been questioning the fests and their safety. With this year marking the 3rd fire that has ended Palmer Fest in 4 years, the concerns are not unheard. However though, there are those that claim the incidents are all in good fun. "Imagine how much money Athens makes during fest season? They act like the fests are ruining Athens and no benefits are coming from it but if you take away the parties, you take a way a big financial weekend from the community." One partier had to say. With four more fests remaining on schedule for this year, and the final fest season before the university switches over to semesters instead of the original quarter system, the future of the fests is more questionable than ever. With a house fire ending Palmer fest early this year with riot cops evacuating partying students from the street, tensions have already grown in wondering what the rest of the fest season has in store. Here are some images from Palmer fest. Enjoy.
